Names of three newcomers in De Ruiter portfolio revealed!

For some time now, three new tomato varieties from De Ruiter have been available for order, and now the official names are published: DRTH1060 continues as Grandice RES*, DRTH0068 as Marisara*, and DRTH5066 as Riboski*. Three newcomers that, among other things, provide an answer to the notorious ToBRFV virus. The crop circumstances extensively trials in Benelux region.

Grandice RES* (DRTH1060): the ToBRFV-resistant successor to Grandice

"This is the resistant variant of the well-known truss tomato Grandice," explains André Schaap, Market Development. "Grandice performs very well in unlit cultivation and has a strong market position. That led us to develop a conversion with built-in ToBRFV resistance." The Grandice RES* (DRTH1060) combines strikingly red fruits of 180 grams with high yields. "In addition, the variety has good endurance and strong generative finish. In terms of fruit weight, quality, and the strong position of Grandice, we had a very solid foundation to build upon. You can see that reflected in this ToBRFV-resistant variant that offers more security than the original version."

Marisara* (DRTH0068): shine and flavor

Besides the large truss tomato, there is the new medium truss tomato Marisara* (DRTH0068). "This is the first medium truss tomato in our greenhouse offering with ToBRFV resistance," explains Market Development representative Jari Boerboom. "This 130 to 140-gram tomato stands out on the shelf thanks to the unique shine on the fruits and the deep red colour. The consumer's eye is quickly drawn to it." In addition, the flavor of Marisara* (DRTH0068) really stands out. "Flavor is key, and with a °Brix between 4 and 6, it's definitely in order here. So, the expected repeat purchase is high," emphasizes Jari. This is certainly also an interesting variety for the grower. "Marisara* (DRTH0068) has good endurance, with the fruits achieving the right average fruit weight for this segment. This is a typical De Ruiter variety: flavourful, robust, and productive!"

Riboski* (DRTH5066): the new, heavy beef tomato

The last newcomer within this resistant trio is the beef tomato Riboski* (DRTH5066), whose fruits weigh 290 to 340 grams. "This variety has more endurance than most other varieties. We've really added a lot on top of that," explains Jari. "The yield potential is high with good harvest efficiency. With this variety, you harvest a heavier fruit with the same action. This way you reduce costs. And with its wide diameter, this beef tomato also brings in more revenue." The Riboski* (DRTH5066) is a ribbed tomato. "That is particularly appreciated in the Benelux. Those authentic looks are appealing on the shelf."

These three newcomers offer new possibilities for growers with their intermediate ToBRFV resistance and attractive characteristics. Want to know more? Check out the product pages below. Additionally, our colleagues are ready to answer any questions you may have.
