Seminis "Driving Forward” on UK Brassica Innovation Day

The UK Brassica Innovation Day event took place on the 14th & 15th October 2015 at a new location south west of Boston, Lincolnshire, on fields kindly provided by Windy Ridge Veg Ltd. The theme of this year’s event was around the Rugby World Cup currently taking place in the UK and was entitled “Driving Forward”.

The event comprised of a range of broccoli, cauliflower & cabbage plots with the focus being on NEW broccoli varieties Titanium (breeder’s reference: SV7709BL)* and SV1002BL and our recent cauliflower introduction SV5818AC. During the event, visitors could see demonstrations and results of broccoli density studies carried out in the UK over the last 2 seasons as well as information on broccoli growth trends over the last 5 seasons.  The event received a large number of visitors from the UK, Ireland and Nordics comprising of growers, plant propagators, traders and retailers. The new varieties, event and new location were well received by visitors.

During the event a competition to win an I pad mini 3 took place. This involved our visitors guessing the average weight from the 2015 trial season of our NEW heavier broccoli variety Titanium (breeder’s reference: SV7709BL)* and working out the number of heads taken to make up an average rugby pack weight of 881kg. The winner of the draw was Crawford Comrie from Kettle Produce Ltd in Scotland.
