FIRST LOOK - DRTH1025* Tomato

Following the recent launch of Marinice and Bountice in the Large Truss Tomato segment, De Ruiter® proudly presents our new in-development DRTH1025 variety.

DRTH1025 is a jointless large truss variety with high yield potential, large size, high glossy fruits and improved truss quality.

Characteristics are based on a 2-year crop cycle in Canada (2019 and 2020) and trial data from the Netherlands (2020).

Highlights

  • A high-performing alternative to generative varieties such as DR7962TH in semi-closed greenhouses
  • Artificial light cycles possible
  • Low incidence of boat fruits compared to Marinice
  • Large fruit size
  • Superb glossy fruits
  • Balanced plant vigor
  • Anticipated improved Intermediate Resistance to Powdery mildew and Intermediate Resistance to Late blight

  • HR: ToMV:0-2/Ff:A-E/Fol:0,1/For/Va:0/Vd:0
  • IR: On/Pi/Lt
  • Given its balanced plant behavior, DRTH1025 might be suitable for short crop cycles.

Plant Behavior and Potentials

DRTH1025 was tested in Canada/USA through grafting in long crop cycles from January to December. Originally selected for winter crop cycles with artificial lights in the Netherlands, it wielded promising results under semi-closed glasshouses due to its earliness, good fruit size and balanced plant type.

Grafted and pinched on cotyledons 2:1, DRTH1025 delivers early harvests. The fruits are large with some ribs present mostly during early season. As plants mature with higher light levels, the fruit shape fills out with fewer ribs.

The fruit color culminates into a beautiful, shiny red and the trusses show low incidence of green trailers in general.

Because of its tall plant aspect, it is not ideal for short glasshouses. The expected fruit size averages 170-180 grams and will vary depending on the growing environment.

When cultivated in the right conditions, DRTH1025 is a De Ruiter® masterpiece that will meet your needs in more vegetative environments with unmatched glossy fruits!

Performance may vary from location to location and from year to year, as local growing, soil and weather conditions may vary. Growers should evaluate data from multiple locations and years whenever possible and should consider the impacts of these conditions on the grower’s fields.

Any recommendations in this article are based upon glasshouse observations and feedback received from a limited number of trials and locations. These recommendations should be considered as one reference point and should not be substituted for the professional opinion of agronomists, entomologists or other relevant experts evaluating specific conditions.
