- Shearwater produces a firm, uniform globe shaped bulb that is able to be mechanically harvested in a maturity class that is usually hand clipped and harvested. With a top-down date of 7–10 December in Pukekohe, Shearwater is a mid-day hybrid that matures in a slot traditionally taken by short-day varieties. Storage and skin quality are also excellent, giving growers the flexibility to still have stock when ELK comes on the market.
