BABINDA

Babinda is a large loose gourmet tomato suitable for Autumn and Winter production in central and north Queensland. Babinda shows improved size and yield of the Seminis market standard with an improved disease package which includes High Resistance to Fusarium crown rot. Fruit quality is high with a glossy red appearance, high shoulder and flatter shape, some 5 locule fruit is common. Calyx scar is large similar to SV0215TH. Fruit size is typically a large 71-76mm+ diameter, average fruit weight (AFW) is 160-180grams during ideal growing season.

Agronomic Tips

  • Hot to Cold season Fruit blotchiness can develop under cool/cold conditions with low light – recommend low N inputs and monopotassium phosphate (MKP) product applied during fruit fill and harvest Some sensitivity to powdery mildew races in North Queensland (Australia), monitor and spray accordingly Plant spacing 45-50cm, 1.5m row centers, prune to 2 leaders , trellis to 1.6m Plant population 13,000 - 15,000 plants/hectare
